At the beginning of the Women’s AFL season, I predicted serious injuries would occur and unfortunately that has been the case. Kate Sheahan tore her ACL after only seconds on the arena. She will most likely have a reconstruction and follow a 9-to-12-month rehab program.
Our Physios have great experience preparing patients for surgery and then helping them through the challenges of rehab. In fact, I have been doing it for 37 years but it’s a bit easier these days for the patient. Back in the 80s, patients were placed in a plaster cast for 6 weeks post-surgery! Imagine that in warmer weather and imagine how stiff and weak the leg had become. Add to that the grind of using crutches. Sports Medicine has made great gains yet still strives for more answers.
