With the AFL season now resumed, all supporters are hopeful that their stars are ready to fire. Many players have post season surgery and others require a long rest period to recover from chronic nagging issues. Will they be ready for round one? Should they be rushed to play round one?

Decisions come down to type of surgery, amount of pre-season training completed, their age, team balance and how important they are to the team. Some interesting returns include Jarryd Roughhead, Nathan Vardy at West Coast, Carlton skipper Murphy who missed 9 weeks at the end of last season, Gary Ablett who missed a similar amount, Bob Murphy who missed out on a premiership and about 10 Essendon players who had a “holiday” for 12 months!
