Each year Richmond Football club holds a legends/corporates game at the MCG. A fundraiser for retired players. It is a game where the average ability footballer of nearly any age can play with and against a club legend of the RFC-who also are getting on a bit!
Nonetheless, ex-players act as coaches and that has included Tom Hafey, Mark Lee, Emmett Dunne, Dale Weightman, Francis Bourke and Tony Jewell. There are all the usual umpires, doctors, scoreboard vision and scoring, trainers and Physiotherapist. Steve has volunteered over the last 10 years to help in that role. The corporates or should we say the lesser talented, absolutely love the occasion. A dream come true to be out on the G in the Tiger colours kicking a footy. Some are as old as 60, some given the chance by friends/family who made it their gift to them. Players come from interstate and overseas to be a part of the weekend. Unfortunately, and they all know this can happen, each year several limp off the field. One tore a calf muscle, jogging up the race to get on the ground! Some get white line fever but wouldn’t you if you dusted off your old Puma boots and ran through a banner onto the G?!!
